Gold-for-gorgeous to Switzerland's Stéphane Lambiel, the former world champion who can still bring it, best spinner on the planet and forever swoon material for the ladies of the Figure Skating Writers Association. The doyenne of our coven, a British Lady who's seen them all, claims Lambiel still makes her "weak at the knees". And she's 128 years old.

[Article] - Adam Rippon about Stéphane

[...]
"Oh and Stéphane (Lambiel), oh my god, he's one of my favorite skaters of all time. I wish he didn't have to do jumps, because with his spins and his skating, I could just watch him for a 20-minute program. He skates so differently from everyone else."

[Article] - Lambiel: "I renounce the world championships"

In the wake of his bitter disappointment, Stéphane Lambiel has faced his media duties, after having declined the invitation from Darius Rochebin to TJ, he reserve his confidences, three hours later to an audience of journalists, in the Olympic Village in Vancouver.
"I was not allowed to make mistakes and I was traumatized by the thought. Throughout the free program, I felt I beat egg whites and it doesn't rise. I must accept this situation."

In the same breath, he added:
"The Games were my goal, my only goal. I'm not taking part on the Worlds at Turin (March 22 to 28). I'm proud of my career, my way, I have no regrets.

Yet he refuses to talk about his retirement:
"Perhaps I will write a new chapter. We'll see."

The Europeans held in Bern and the Worlds in Japan in 2011, could positively influence his decision. Even his groin do suffer. On October 16, 2008, Stéphane Lambiel retired from competition but returned on July 25, 2009.

[Article] - "It was like a prison"

Stéphane Lambiel is annoyed not primarily about the fact that he barely missed the bronze medal. He more regrets that he had gone to the wrong spirit on the ice.

Stéphane Lambiel, would you after the 4th place afterwards to do something different?
I would have changed the spirit. I went onto the ice with the idea that I may make a mistake. Instead, I should gone onto the ice and say to me: "I have nothing to fear." It was like a prison.

What is more frustating for you... that they have narrowly missed bronze or that you couldn't show the desired performance?
That I couldn't get the benefit.

Are you the extreme of the olympic games? On one hand you were the flag bearer at the opening ceremony and on other hand things didn't run well in all competitions.
Olympic Games are always extreme. They are always associated with emotions and stress. It was a very beautiful and exciting story, unfortunately. without a happy ending. I fighted for a gold medal, unfortunately without success. I can't change it.

They were told in advance of the differences between the Olympic Games in 2006 and 2010. How it was now on the ice?
This competition was funny. The level was high, but at the same time there was a strange atmosphere. Some said they must have a quadruple jump. Others said no, to focus more on the artistry. You just have to think that wins the best. Point. Conclusion. We must accept that.

Evgeni Plushenko has criticized Olympic champion Evan Lysacek because he doesn't do the quadruple. What do you have to say?
For him, it's difficult to accept defeat. For me too. He now needs time. But he remains a great champion. He had fought well.

What do you do now in Vancouver?
I must prepare for the gala. On Saturday, I'll go watch ski jumping. Hopefully we'll get a medal. That would be nice. Maybe I'll go skiing one day.

[Article] - Spectacle of the presenter Emanuela Gaggini

Press conferences always follow the same outlines.  The sportsman and/or the trainer is sat in front of all, on the podium and onefinds, well aligned to the foot of this one, a horde of thirsty journalists of revelations, asking questions, filming and taking notes and photos… This scenario rarely also is perturbed as at the time of the press conference of Stéphane Lambiel.

On this occasion, the presenter of TV Emanuela Gaggini precipitated herself on the podium, microphone in the hand, and flanked the skater of a mascotte in a mixture of present 100% small screens and of kindness touching, all accompanied of some "baci".
